Black Swan Theatre Company
Black Swan Theatre Company is Western Australia’s flagship theatre company. Since its inception in 1991, Black Swan has earned critical and popular acclaim for its world premiere productions and highly distinctive interpretations of international theatre classics – all of which are infused with the unique culture of Western Australia. These have included such landmark productions as ‘Sistergirl’, ‘Corrugation Road’ (winner of the prestigious Arts Critics Award), ‘The Merry-Go-Round in the Sea’, ‘Cloudstreet’ and ‘The Odyssey’.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Tom Gutteridge since 2004, Black Swan has maintained a strong commitment to commissioning new work and in recent years has premiered exciting new plays such as Ian Wilding’s ‘The Carnivores’ and Neil Gladwin’s ‘Red Dog’. Black Swan Theatre Company is the designated resident company for Perth’s new performing arts venue, to be completed in 2010.
In 2008 Black Swan Theatre Company continues its tradition of producing first class theatre for Western Australia with seven productions – ‘Jandamarra’ by Steve Hawke, ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’ by Edward Albee’s, ‘The Female of the Species’ by Joanna Murray-Smith, ‘Far Away’ by Caryl Churchill, ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ by Edmond Rostand and ‘Ying Tong – A walk with the Goons’ by Roy Smiles.
