Barracks Archway
Learn more about Western Australia’s colonial history on a visit to Barracks Archway in the west end of Perth.
Barracks Archway was once part of a large military barracks designed by Richard Jewell and built by convict labour in the 1860s. It housed the Enrolled Pensioner Guards and their families. The military barracks was eventually demolished but the archway was saved and now sits nearby Parliament House.
Barracks Archway makes for an imposing landmark on a drive along Saint George’s Terrace in Perth.
It’s an easy walk from the city centre, or you can catch a free CAT bus.
