Kryal Castle
As you approach the imposing bluestone walls of Kryal Castle on a long straight stretch of road off the Western Highway there are two questions in your mind....
Why? And how did this enormous castle appear on a country hillside? For a place that seems to be, even from the distance, a fairytale prop come vividly to life, the answers are suitably surreal. Built with the small fortune the owner and creator Keith Ryall made from selling handmade body armour all over the world, the castle represents a kingdom he always wanted to live in from his childhood. Keith built stage one between 1972 and 1974 for the opening with the help of local and overseas craft people such as stone masons.
The grand bluestone edifice comes complete with moat, drawbridge and bluestone maze. Weekends and holidays include medieval re-enactments, magic show, screening The history of Kryal Castle film, archery. View the exhibits of arms and armour, the wax torture chamber, dungeons, comical graveyard, medical museum, lead lighting, gift shop and tarot readers. Why not bring a picnic or enjoy the fine fare of our Mountain Inn cafe. On weekdays personalized tours are conducted at 11.00am and 1.30pm.
Kryal Castle also hosts conferences, events, childrens parties and weddings.
The Kryal tavern comes alive most Saturday nights for the Castle Cabaret Variety show, which combines a Neil Diamond tribute show with stand up comedy, magic, and the key scenes from the Rocky Horror Show. The $55per head includes complimentary drink and nibblies before the show. Often King Keith Ryall and his wife Queen Joyce can be spotted in the crowd enjoying the show.
Royal Accommodation Castle Cabaret packages within the castle walls are available are good value for a whole night out at $250.00 per couple.
