Buda Historic Home and Garden

Enjoy the charm of Buda, an authentic house and garden surviving from the Gold rush era, tracing one creative family's history over 118 years. See how life was for the Leviny family from 1863 and enjoy the large garden full of old world plants. The 1.2 hectare garden offers a rare insight into the ideals and aspirations of two generations of a family of keen gardeners. Fashionable elements vary from elaborate Victorian-style flower beds to the simple geometry of the formal garden reflecting early 20th century tastes. Most of the plants brought into the garden since the 1860s have remained to form a unique heritage collection.

As part of the Art Deco Regional Festival, Buda has organised a special exhibition At Home With Art Deco which will feature artworks, decorative arts and domestic items relating to the period 1914-45. The artworks include work from Margaret Preston, Eveline Syme and Norbertine Bresslern-Roth and studio pottery from Klytie Pate and Phillipa James. There are also artworks created by family members and their circle of artistic friends.

The house exhibition will be on view until the end of October

Also visit our retail and propagating Plant Nursery specialising in the great survivors of the goldfields, with many rare and unusual plants. The nursery has its origins as a stock of replacement plants all grown from seed, cuttings, bulbs, corms and tubers collected in the historic garden.
