The residence, the former Postmaster's home is offered as a unique one bedroom cottage with all facilities for a memorable stay at an affordable price.
The building is a short walking distance to many historic gold rush sites, including the Forest Creek diggings, the Garfield wheel, and the site of the Monster Meeting: a miner's uprising which predates the Eureka stockade.
The small township of Chewton was once a bustling hub for the miners who found their way to the world's richest alluvial goldfields. Nowadays the small township boasts another unique claim:
The quaint Post Office in the Main Road owes it's continued survival to the determination of local residents, who lay claim to have saved their Post Office from closure 3 times in its 125 year history.
In 1996 their determination was rewarded - and the Post Office and Town Hall buildings were handed over to community ownership.
The distinctive red brick Post Office Building also now enjoys the protection of being listed on the Historic Buildings Register of Victoria.
