Scamander Forest Reserve

The Scamander Forest Reserve is situated on the banks of the Scamander River, Tasmania. The reserve provides a host of camping and recreation opportunities on Tasmania’s picturesque east coast.
There is a separate day-use and camping area as well as excellent fishing and boating to be enjoyed. Try your hand at bream fishing in the upper reaches of the Scamander River. There is a retaining wall for you to sit on and other fish species including trout, cocky salmon and travally are also common. There is a boat ramp and jetty 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) up the river allowing easy access for boating enthusiasts. Scamander Forest Reserve is ideal for both caravans and tents. Sites cannot be booked, so arrive early to ensure you secure one. There are barbecue facilities to enjoy as well as bushwalking and mountain bike trails nearby. Have a picnic in the delightful bush surrounds and keep an eye out for local wildlife.
To get there, head 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of St Helens and turn off the A3 near Scamander. The reserve is just over two-hours’ drive from Launceston (185 kilometres/115 miles).
