Strawbale Estate Cottages offers self-contained, strawbale-built accommodation at Tea Tree in southern Tasmania. The property is a few kilometres from Richmond, 20 minutes from Hobart Airport and a 30-minute drive from Hobart’s central business district.
Strawbale Estate has one, two-bedroom guest cottage. The main bedroom has a queen-size bed; the second bedroom has three single beds. There is a double corner spa and walk-in shower in the bathroom, and a fully-equipped, modern kitchen. The Cottage has polished floors and the living area has a compact disc player, digital television and games. There is an outdoor barbecue area and play area for children. The cottage also has wheelchair access.
Straw bales were first used for building in the United States, over a century ago. The rendered straw bales produce a sturdy, well-insulated structure. The finished appearance has character and warmth, with thick, textured walls.
Strawbale Estate Cottages is a short drive from the Georgian township of Richmond, which has a rich convict history. It is also located in the Coal River Valley Wine Region and is close to local vineyards and wineries. Other local attractions include a wildlife park, fun park and local galleries, restaurants and cafes.
