McLachlan Studio
The McLachlan Studio is a contemporary jewellery design gallery at Deloraine, northern Tasmania.
Hugh McLachlan and Mary Phillips-McLachlan create classic, individually designed jewellery which they describe as ‘wearable art’. Each distinctive piece is handmade using traditional gold and silver smithing techniques, and incorporating precious stones and pearls. The McLachlan Studio’s elegant designs are created in Tasmania for collectors across Australia, the United States, United Kingdom and Europe. A selection of pieces is displayed in the studio gallery, which is surrounded by 20 hectares (50 acres) of native bush, orchards and park-like gardens dotted with bold steel and concrete sculptures.
The McLachlan studio was the recipient of the Tasmanian Export Award for Art in 2003 and 2004. A catalogue, featuring Hugh McLachlan’s photography, is produced each year to showcase designs from the current collection.
The Studio is located on the banks of the Meander River, eight kilometres from Deloraine - a 40-minute journey south-west of Launceston (48 kilometres/30 miles).
