Lake Echo
Lake Echo is a large Hydro Tasmania lake near Bronte Park in central Tasmania. To reach Lake Echo from the Lyell Highway, take the Osterley turn off at Bradys Lake, 140 kilometres (87 miles) north west of Hobart.
Lake Echo offers excellent trout fishing, with an abundant population of brown trout in addition to smaller numbers of redfin and tench. You can launch your boat at four sites around the Lake – two at Echo Dam, one near Brocks Bay and a fourth on the lake’s western shore. There are also informal camping areas along the shore - the most popular camp sites are at Echo Dam and Brocks Bay to the south.
You will need a licence to fish for trout at Lake Echo. A free brochure - ‘Fishing Code for Anglers’ - is available from licence-selling agents and the Inland Fisheries Commission.
