Something Wild
Something Wild is a wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary at National Park, southwest Tasmania. National Park is an hour’s drive northwest of Hobart (77 kilometres), two kilometres from the Mount Field national park entrance.
Something Wild specialises in the rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured native wildlife. Covering 485 hectares (1200 acres) of protected land, with 12 hectares (30 acres) devoted to the main visitor area, it is Tasmania’s largest wildlife sanctuary. Here, you will meet and touch some of Tasmania’s endemic wildlife. See Tasmanian devils, wombats, eastern quolls, kangaroos and wallabies, golden possums and several native birds, including majestic masked owls. The sanctuary is also home to a family of wild platypus - residents of the Tyenna River, which runs through the property.
You can join a Nightstalk Wildlife Experience at Something Wild and become a Wildlife Nanny and experience behind-the-scenes, one-on-one
care of the animals. Try your hand as a Wildlife Filmmaker and join the research team for an after-dark expedition, and become a Nightstalker, and spot wild nocturnal animals in their natural habitat. You can also visit the interpretation centre to learn more about Tasmania’s native wildlife, or perhaps choose something from the gift shop to take home.
