Cooltong Conservation Park
Cooltong Conservation Park is located eight kilometres north-east of Berri, just off the Sturt Highway and contains 3,571 hectares of mallee vegetation, with undulating dunes and swales.
The southern areas contain semi-open mallee and grasslands, modified to some degree by grazing. Other areas of the park are dominated by quality mallee associations, including shrub and groundcover understorey, with minimal evidence of disturbance by introduced herbivores.
The park was dedicated in 1993 to preserve quality mallee vegetation and habitat for the bird species that frequent the area, in particular the Malleefowl.
Bird watching is a prominent activity with Cooltong. The park does not have any facilities except one internal track.
Cooltong is an important habitat for a number of scheduled species including Striated Grass Wrens, Mallee Heath Wrens, Major Mitchell Cockatoos, Regents Parrots, Chestnut Quail Thrushes, Gilbert Whistlers, Scarlet Chested Parrots, Black Eared Miners and Red Lored Whistlers.
Camping and dogs are not permitted within this park.
