Mount Dare Homestead And Dalhousie Mound Springs
Formerly a cattle station, Mount Dare is today part of Witjira National Park, on the edge of the Simpson Desert with Marla to the west and Birdsville to the east. Nearby Dalhousie Mound Springs is a desert oasis, inviting you to plunge into its therapeutic heated spring waters.
Other attractions of the park include Dalhousie Ruins. For the birdwatcher, Mount Dare is a haven abounding with prolific birdlife.
Mount Dare is approximately 513 kilometres south-east of Alice Springs by road, and 10 kilometres south of the Northern Territory and South Australian borders. Its location offers an adventurous four-wheel drive trek into the arid desert. A place from which to make base camp, and explore the surrounding gibber stone country and Finke River flood plains, or just relax in the hot thermal springs at Dalhousie.
Mount Dare, an original Outback station homestead, offers basic but comfortable accommodation and camping facilities, a stop-over where you can purchase supplies for crossing the Simpson Desert, touring north to Andado Station or New Crown and Finke, and south along the Oodnadatta Track. The facility has a 24 hour liquor licence.
There is an airstrip and Avgas fuel available, also super, unleaded and distillate fuel. Mechanical facilities are available including an inground pit, welding and tyre repairs and mechanical breakdown assistance.
