The Kidman Trail - Willunga to Kapunda
The Kidman Trail provides a range of horse riding, bike riding and walking experiences linking McLaren Vale and the Fleurieu Peninsula to the Barossa Valley.
The trail is proudly named after Sir Sidney Kidman, a prominent local pastoralist and horse breeder. Kidman was a pioneer of his time with unparalleled forethought in business and interminable community spirit.
The first section of the trail from Willunga to Echunga is open, with the remaining sections to Kapunda in planning and development stages.
The Kidman Trail provides a sustainable, safe and scenic trail that highlights the natural beauty, cultural history and major points of interest along the Mount Lofty Ranges. It utilises existing tracks and trails through Forest Reserves and other accessible public land, quiet roads and unmade road reserves with trail markers indicating the route.
A number of trailheads providing information on horse yarding, campsites and float parking are installed along the route.
Riders may use sections, loops, links or on some occasions the full 200 kilometres of trail. It would take between five and seven days to horse ride the trail from start to finish.
Kapunda hosts the convergence of three of South Australia's icon trails - the Heysen, Mawson and Kidman trails.
