Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery
Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery makes wines from tropical fruit. No it's not sweet and sticky. The range includes very dry wines to medium-sweet and port styles and they are commercial standard. In the 2006 Australian Fruit Wine Awards in Cairns, they entered 13 wines and received 10 medals including three gold.
Wine tastings are available at the cellar door; there are usually around 12 different wines to try. They make single-fruit wines, not blends, and they are an ideal companion for foods. The fruits they use include pineapple, mango, jaboticaba, ginger, lycee, orange, grapefruit, paw paw, lemon, yellow mangosteen, black sapote, kaffir lime and purple mangosteen. The fruit is grown in the organic way in their own orchard. No chemicals are used on the fruit trees.
They are located in the centre of the Shannonvale Valley, just 15 minutes north of Port Douglas, five minutes south of Mossman and 70 kilometres north of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Australia.
They contract a Wine Consultant, Brian Wilson, from Victoria, who has provided them with the best of wine making expertise.
