Sydney Harbour National Park - South Head

Visit the spectacular scenery of the sandstone cliffs at Sydney’s South Head. Overlooking the entrance to Sydney Harbour and located within Sydney Harbour National Park, South Head is a coastal landscape of great beauty, panoramic views, maritime and military historic sites and wildlife habitats of educational interest. These features combine to make South Head a fantastic recreational resource for Sydney residents and visitors alike.

There are several short walking tracks around the headland, allowing visitors to take advantage of the sites on offer. In particular, the South Head Heritage Trail is a pleasant one-hour stroll along the harbour foreshore beginning at Camp Cove Beach, Watsons Bay. Taking in Lady Bay Beach and looping around the headland passed Hornby lighthouse, the Lightkeepers’ Cottage and gun emplacements from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, this walk also offers dramatic views of Middle Head, North Head and Manly.
The Gap Bluff Walking Track is another short 40 minute walk beginning from the Gap Bluff Centre and heading to the Gap and the many popular lookouts along the bluff.

Access to South Head is available by public transport from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay by bus or ferry. Once you alight at Watsons Bay, Camp Cove or The Gap Bluff Walking Track is a short walk.
