In 1885 concerned British colonists thought an invasion from Russians was imminent. Bare Island Fort was built to protect "Sydney's back door"- Botany Bay - thus settling the minds of the early settlers.

On Sundays The Bare Island Fort is open for guided tours. Tickets can be purchased prior to the tour on site at the entrance to the Fort. Bookings are essential. For group bookings over 20 people, please contact the National Parks and Wildlife Service on 02 9247 5033.
There are parking and picnic areas on the mainland at La Perouse monuments.
