Munmorah State Recreation Area
Situated between Lake Munmorah and the ocean. Closest town is Budgewoi
Two camping areas to choose from:
Freemans: Has tent and caravan sites, cold showers, fireplace, tap water, toilets and Gas BBQs and contains 50 sites. It is only a few minutes walk to Birdie and Red Ochre Beaches. Walking tracks lead away from the camping area.
Frazer: Has 6 tent sites, cold showers, fireplace, tap water, toilets and Gas BBQs. It is located only a short walk from Frazer Beach and provides easy access to the popular snapper point fishing spot.
Munmorah State Recreation area lies on the Central Coast between Budgewoi and Catherine Hill Bay. It preserves 1563 ha of forest, woodland, heath wetland and temperate rainforest and 12 km of spactaular and rugged coastline. On its western side it fronts onto Lake Munmorah.
In Munmorah State Conseravation Area, Birdie Beach is at the southern end of the park and is a popular fishing and surfing beach. Unclad bathing is permitted at the northern end of the beach only (known as Red Ochre Beach). Frazer Beach is a much smaller beach than Birdie. There is a picturesque picnic area and there are great fishing and surfing spots. The beach is patrolled only during summer holidays and Easter. Access closest to the northern entrance off Pacific Highway, off Campbell Drive.
