Derwent BridgeDerwent Bridge is on the road to and from the west coast (Highway A10), 2.5 hours’ drive, 186 kilometres (115 miles) from Hobart. It has your basic travelling needs covered – accommodation, petrol station and a wilderness pub.

Derwent Bridge is a good place for an overnight stay, a stop-off on your way west or east, or to use as a base when exploring Lake St Clair-Cradle Mountain National Park just five kilometres (three miles) away. This area is also renowned for its fly fishing and there are dozens of nearby lakes to choose from.

The park is administered in two sections with helpful rangers at Cradle Mountain and at Cynthia Bay near Derwent Bridge. Food and petrol supplies and accommodation are available at the northern entrance, two kilometres from the Cradle Mountain camping grounds. There are huts with gas stoves, cooking utensils and mattresses, as well as amenities blocks with hot showers and toilets. A picnic area with barbecues and a boat service is at Cynthia Bay, and overnight huts are available with beds and heating.
