Explore the Burdekin
The Burdekin lies one hour south of Townsville, encompasses the two towns Ayr and Home Hill and is a region full of surprises - wetlands and waterways, sugarcane and scenic plains. The region is famous for its wildlife and fishing with vast wetlands and gaping waterways. The regions spacious natural water parks are home to an amazing array of protected birdlife that is native to this part of the world.
Situated on the north side of the mighty Burdekin River, 85 kilometres south of Townsville, this prosperous rural community of Ayr is the main town in the Burdekin Shire.
