Australian University Games
In 2008, Australia's largest annual multi sport event will be held in the city of Melbourne. The Games provide an opportunity for university athletes to compete against each other in a national multi sport event, many of whom are of Olympic standard. As such, the Games has built a reputation as a not-to-be-missed event attracting over 6,000 participants from over 40 universities each year. In 2008 the Games boasts a program of 28 sports and will operate with support from Tourism Victoria, and both Monash and Victoria Universities.
Since its inception in 1993, the Australian University Games (AUG) has grown to be Australia largest annual multi-sport event. Held each September / October, the Games is renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for Australian university athletes and is the flagship event on the national university sporting calendar.
The Games have also been a recipient of two key industry awards. In 2001 the event was recognised for its contribution to the Australian sporting landscape when it won the NSW Sports Award for Event of the Year. In 2005 the Games won the prestigious Event of the Year at the Queensland Sports Federation Sport Awards. The 2007 Games has also been nominated for Event of the Year at the 2007 Queensland Sports Federation Sport Awards and Best Tourism Event for 2007 at the Confederation of Australian Sport Awards
Off the sporting field, an action-packed, week-long social program is conducted to complement the sporting activities and enhance the event experience for participants.
