Melbourne International Tap Festival

This is the only festival of its kind in Australasia and aims to unite and strengthen the international Tap Family. With strong ties to the LA Tap Festival and NYC Tap Festival it will undoubtedly leave an imprint on history by connecting cultures through the celebration of the historic Art of Tap Dance. Tap is a rare art form that all people, irrespective of gender or culture, ethnic background or musical persuasion, whether they are 3 years of age or 103 years old, can both participate in and appreciate.

In other parts of the globe, this action packed week will be highlighted with workshops, master classes, films, lectures and jam sessions. The pinnacle of the festival will be three exciting performances headlined by the return of Los Angeles based, Emmy Award winner Jason Samuels Smith, along with fellow American Chloe Arnold, and a host of other local talent including;

* Grant Swift Artistic Director MITF

* Shane Preston Tap Dogs / Steel City Paul Davis Tap Dogs

* Christopher Horsey Bootmen, Hot Shoe Shuffle, 42nd Street

* The Swift Brothers Australia s Got Talent Semifinalists

Workshops 16th to 21st October

The festival is about participation with workshops from beginners to masterclasses, lectures on history of the art form, film nights and cutting competitions involvement and interaction is the epitome of the festival. We encourage people of any age to watch, try and discuss tap and its history to educate and promote a healthy and enjoyable form of exercise that is an art itself.

Shows The National Theatre 17th & 18th October

The Festival showcases provide a platform for the creative expression of various artists. The creative director, Grant Swift, nurtures and encourages each performer to think outside the square and develop their own story to be told through their own rhythms using their feet.
