MIFF hosts a feast of cinematic delicacies from over 50 countries for some 17 days each winter, heavily garnished with a range of parties and special events that envelop the CBD. In addition to screening the very best in world cinema, MIFF is Australia s largest showcase of new Australian cinema and most vocal champion of both emerging and established local filmmaking talent.

INTERNATIONAL PANORAMA
International Panorama is a selection of the most contemporary and challenging cinema from around the globe. Our travels have taken us to some of the world s major film festivals Toronto, Rotterdam, Berlin, Cannes and Pusan to trawl for new trends and search out cinematic visions from a variety of cultures. An eclectic mix of genres and filmic styles, this program serves up a feast sure to satisfy the most ravenous film going appetite!
BACKBEAT
A perennial hit over several MIFFs, Backbeat is our annual celebration of music on screen. This program concentrates on documentaries and features about music styles everything from rap to rock and about musicians with individual visions. A must-see for every rock n roll fan, the enormously successful 'Backbeat' program hits all the right chords with music obsessed melbournians.
NEXT GEN
Premiering in 2007, MIFF is proud to once again present Next Gen . A selection of international films for young audiences, this program treats Melbourne s younger generations as mature contemporary viewers. This is an opportunity for younger members of our community, as well as the young at heart, to become part of the MIFF experience.
