Cricket Willow

Cricket Willow Cup

Willow trees for cricket bats have been growing at Shepherds Flat for over a century. They were introduced in 1902 by legendary test umpire Robert Crockett. The Shepherds Flat plantation soon flourished and became the primary source of timber for the renowned Crockett cricket bats.

In recent years the Tinetti family have created Cricket Willow as a tribute to this unique part of Australian cricket. They have revived the willow plantation and transformed their rocky front paddock into a picturesque cricket oval. The pavilion is a recreation of the Shepherds Flat General Store and houses a museum, licensed caf and billiard hall.

The latest project has involved an expansion of the bat factory and the creation of 'The Cricket Gallery'. Cricket Willow is now the only venue in the world where visitors can follow the complete process of cricket bat manufacture from 'bud to bat' - from planting the bud to hand-crafting the bat to hitting runs in the middle of the picturesque field of dreams.

Visitors are most welcome to enjoy the facilities at Cricket Willow at the grand final of the Cricket Willow Twenty20 Cup on Australia Day 2009 (26 January). The Australia Day festivities will kick off with Family Super 6's cricket from 10am-1pm. Families and friends are invited to form a team of 6 players to participate in an exciting new form of cricket played with a softaball . The top two teams form the Central Highlands will then slog it out in the Cricket Willow Twenty20 Cup grand final from 2pm. Entry is by gold coin donation to charity.
