Kangaroo Island Gourmet Gallop 2009
The Gourmet Gallop is the warm-up event to the February Kangaroo Island Cup Carnival. The event showcases local Kangaroo Island produce and wine and provides entertaining horse racing and is staged in the school holidays. It is an activity targeted at families and visitors who stay on the island.
The traditional race picnic carnival is an entertaining 'day at the races'. Not only is there competitive horse racing, but there are also activities for children as a kinder-gym and face painting.
In 2009 five local wineries and six catering establishments who specialise in local food will be part of the event. The unique Island enterprises promote their product and to literarily add flavour to the race meeting.
The day is well supported by local trainers and there is a good crowd, which is swollen by the many visitors spending their holidays on the Island.
